Executive Director



The Center for Progressive Reform (CPR) (www.progressivereform.org) seeks an Executive Director. Founded in 2002, the Center for Progressive Reform (CPR) is a nonprofit research and educational organization with a network of Member Scholars working to protect health, safety, and the environment through analysis and commentary. What began as a small group of scholars has grown to encompass 50 tenured law professors at universities across the United States and a full-time staff of ten, including an operations and finance manager, and a senior media consultant. CPR’s annual budget is approximately $800,000.



CPR pursues its mission to protect public health, worker and consumer safety, and the environment by bringing academic research promoting legal and policy reforms to the public policy debate. CPR’s growth and influence has expanded rapidly over the last few years. CPR produces white papers, maintains a well-read blog, holds semi-annual scholar meetings, and conducts brown bags, briefings, and webinars designed to educate policymakers and advocates. Most commonly described as a “progressive” or “liberal” think tank, CPR does not lobby, nor does it litigate. A dynamic and growing organization, CPR operates on a unique virtual office model, with the majority of staff located in the Washington, D.C. area. Potential candidates must reside within daily commuting distance from Washington and be prepared to work from home.



Candidates should have at least seven and preferably more years of work-related experience and must possess the following skills:



· Juris Doctor (this requirement may be waived in exceptional circumstances provided the applicant has an extensive background in a closely related field);

· Fund-raising and management experience, preferably within the non-profit community;

· Familiarity with the policymaking process in Washington, D.C.;

· Substantive knowledge of the issue areas emphasized by CPR; and

· Demonstrated commitment to work consistent with CPR’s mission and values.



The Executive Director is responsible for formulating and implementing CPR’s fundraising plans; guiding the Board with respect to strategic planning; serving as a spokesperson for the organization; recruiting and managing CPR staff; ensuring the organization’s compliance with all applicable legal and ethical requirements; developing and sustaining relationships with key allies and partners in the public interest communities; and overseeing the fiscal and administrative operations of the organization.

REGIONAL FIELD ORGANIZER
National HIV/AIDS policy, advocacy, and grant making organization seeks three (3) Regional Field Organizers to work with its grantees, partners, and allies to implement a coordinated national organizing strategy to mobilize grassroots state and federal HIV/AIDS-related advocacy to achieve the National HIV/AIDS Strategy goals--reduction in HIV incidence; increase in access to care and improvement of health outcomes for people living with HIV/AIDS; and reduction of HIV-related health disparities. Regional Field Organizers will be located in Texas, Washington DC, and the Southeast U.S.
Field Organizers will work to enhance the leadership, organizing, advocacy skills, grasstops and grassroots engagement, media outreach, lobbying, issue messaging, political strategy, and materials development of AIDS United grantees and partners within assigned regions through developing and facilitating trainings, providing technical assistance, and developing leadership. They will work with the Director of Regional Organizing to develop and implement regional organizing plans that will enable both quick response and sustained efforts from people living with, impacted by, and at risk of HIV/AIDS and the agencies who serve them to pressing policy issues. Organizers will collaborate closely with the Policy Department to create campaigns and organizing tools that will assist with achievement of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy goals. Field Organizers will provide support to grantees and partners with state and federal advocacy efforts and communicate and coordinate those efforts and outcomes internally and externally.
Must have a minimum of 3-5years of grassroots issue organizing, campaign implementation, education and training, meeting facilitation, material development, coalition development and coordination.
Candidates must possess a strong demonstrated knowledge of HIV/AIDS policy issues. Must have demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Position requires experience in program coordination, health- related services, administration, or related areas. Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team is essential. Possession of strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines is critical. Candidates must possess strong verbal & written communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

What you can expect
Your day isn’t going to be spent making copies or getting coffee.
Why? Our staff is small, but dedicated, so we rely on our interns to
take the lead on significant projects and bring them to completion.
Projects that our interns have worked on in the past include:
• Communications – Writing weekly emails to our national list of
58,000, keeping our blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts up to date
with fresh and timely content.
• Political – Acting as a liaison with our endorsed campaigns across
the country, our Elected Officials Network, and our State Advisory
Council.
• Events – Taking the lead on planning and executing fundraising
events like our Gala and Labor Breakfast, as well as meetings and
conferences with elected officials.
• Speaker Series – Working as the point person to recruit speakers for
our Annual Speakers Series that happens each summer. You will be
working with Members of Congress, Democratic Leaders and others to
engage them in our speaker series. Past speakers have included Van
Jones, Gov. Howard Dean, then Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack
Obama, and Sen. Al Franken.
• Training – Organizing and planning our grassroots campaign training
sessions. You will liaise with local political professionals to serve
as trainers for the sessions and also have the opportunity to
attending the training session yourself.
As an intern, you will receive a travel stipend of $50 per month on a
SmarTrip card. It is also possible to receive full or partial
reimbursement for applicable trainings you wish to attend.
